Pigeon Forge Comfort Food

We all have those special menu items that we just have to have whether it is to warm us up from the cool breeze of a Fall day or whether it is to reminisce on a special memory we have…perhaps you learned how to make a particular menu item with your grandparents or mother. Whatever the reason may be, we all love our comfort food! Personally, my go-to meal is chicken and dumplings…I can still see my mother standing in the kitchen kneading the homemade dough and preparing the whole chicken.  Comfort food is funny that way isn’t it? Not only does it soothe our appetite, but it soothes our soul as well. Our little vacation city offers a lot of southern country food restaurants where you can grab a bowl of some delightful and fulfilling comfort foods. Here is a list of our favorite places to enjoy some good ole southern Pigeon Forge Comfort Food.

Pigeon Forge Comfort Food-Old MillNow, we cannot write about Pigeon Forge Comfort Food without mentioning the Old Mill Restaurant. The Old Mill has been a staple in our city for many, many years and to this day…it remains one of the most popular breakfast, lunch and dinner spots. Ya’ll, it is for good reason too! If you have had the pleasure of sitting in the Mill and enjoying not only the delightful menu, but the good southern hospitality, count yourself blessed. It is truly that good. Oh, and let’s not discuss the size of those portions! It is enough to feed an army…even the most hungry of the group will not be able to throw back all that they deliver to your table. The Old Mill Restaurant is open year round so you can enjoy it throughout the entire year. Seek it out for a nice meal out on your next Pigeon Forge Vacation. Oh, and I can speak highly of their homemade chicken and dumplings…give em a try! While we are talking about the Old Mill, we have to mention the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe. They have, hands down, the BEST loaded potato soup in town! They serve it with their delicious homemade bread and it is a fine meal to have on a crisp Fall day. We order it often here at Cedar Lodge throughout the entire year actually. It is that good. You can also find delicious homemade ice cream while walking around the Old Mill District, as well as some great candy, including homemade taffy and fudge. Basically, when visiting the Old Mill area, be sure you are starving. 😉

Pigeon Forge Comfort Food-Apple BarnSpecializing in good comfort food and family meals is The Apple Barn Restaurant. This restaurant opened up in 1986 after the 1920’s farmhouse was converted into one of the most beloved eateries in town. Known for their apple fritters and fried apple pies, the Apple Barn also serves home cooked meals, candy, ice cream and jams. What makes this restaurant even more of a gem is the fact that it sits in its very own apple orchard. Apple trees surround you and are at every angle of the eye when you pull into the parking area. With their business booming, they decided to expand and open another restaurant in the same area called the Applewood Farmhouse Grill. Double the options over at the Apple Barn area when you are looking for some delicious Pigeon Forge Comfort Food.

Enjoy the goodies and recipes that have been passed down for years within the Johnson Family over at Mama’s Farmhouse, who serves up southern cooking family. This is an all-you-can-eat restaurant in the center of Pigeon Forge. That means no buffet lines, but still big portions of whatever you would like. They bring a big selection to your table and if you run out and want more, simply ask! They like this approach because it means their guests get fresher food, but they waste less. Mama’s Farmhouse even won the International Biscuit Festival back in 2015 so be sure to try one of those when you visit!

Although it is a chain and you can find them all over the country, Cracker Barrel is always a popular stop here in Pigeon Forge. With four Cracker Barrel locations in Sevier County, you have the option of dining with them no matter where you are. Not only are they known for their food, but many go there to simply shop in their gift shop. They carry everything from home decor, jewelry, clothing and nostalgic kids for the children. I like to shop there during the Christmas holiday season to stock up on ornaments and decor for my house. They usually have some great sales going on as well. Stop in to eat, shop and be sure to take a moment or five to relax in the rocking chairs they have outside their stores.

You know what is great about all these restaurants? They are all within fifteen minutes of our Cedar Lodge Vacation Rentals. In fact, you could walk to the Old Mill and Cracker Barrel if you wanted to!
